This Week at EDA -10.04.23
Happy Monday Athletes!
It’s a beautiful new week to work on yourself, and that’s what we are here to help you do!
This week will be busy!
This week our GPP classes are all about the tempo!
But let’s take a look at what that actually means, tempo describes the speed or pace at which you perform an exercise. A lot of gym goers only know one speed and that’s fast. But our current focus is on a slightly more refined meathead, as we know the slightest tweak to tempo can completely change the stimulus to your muscles and instantly unlock the door to a whole new world of gains. It’s also a fantastic way to protect your bones and joints!
We’ve got Holly from the fight team fighting this Sunday at the Oran Mor and we’ve got plenty of opportunities to train before that so come in early and support her as she has her last intense training sessions!
Let’s take a look at the training we have in store this week!
Monday -
We are hitting a coach favourite, Tempo Squats. Backing off the weight a little bit and focusing on form, but that’s not all! Following on from our main strength component we will be hitting our first named workout of the week! Everyday Athletes meet “The Thigh Master” a seriously sweaty for-time work featuring double under, pull-ups, front squats, and finishing on a b-e-a-utiful 50/40 bike cals. This is our epic workout of the week, so bring your A-game!
Tuesday -
We are starting the session with some team bonding, a nice 400m group run (or row or ski if running isn’t on the card this week!). Our strength component of the day is Tempo Strict Press, working with a moderate to heavy weight, this should feel challenging but not impossible. Your coaches can help you figure this out. Before moving into a challenging AMRAP of running, toes to bar, and push-ups.
Wednesday -
To keep up with the theme of the week, we are moving into Tempo Deadlifts with three sets of six moderate to heavy reps. Then we have a fun sweat sesh to complete this session. This is a nice builder workout with a 10-minute workout 3-6-9 and so on of deadlifts and up-down box jump overs. It’s gonna be sweaty!
Thursday -
Thursday sees the continuation of our gymnastic work, and we will be dedicating some time to strict chest-to-bar practice. If this is a new movement or a challenging movement for you we will have options to help make the movement more accessible and your coaches will be on hand to offer helpful tips and tricks to ensure you progress.
Our strength portion will contain a coach favourite, Turkish Get Ups as well as some other challenging movements like this chest to bars you’ve just practiced, some banded rows, and bodyweight split squats. Due to the slightly more challenging nature of these movements, we are looking for three sets for quality here.
Friday -
Okay… this one is sweaty, and we’re not sorry! Even the warm-up is gonna be sweaty! We’ll be hitting a really nice barbell complex and a pretty gnarly 20-minute EMOM. We’ll leave the details of this one to your imagination, as we want you to actually turn up! But you can find spoilers on Wodify if you want to check it out!
Saturday -
You know sometimes, one workout isn’t enough, that’s why this Saturday we will be hitting two! One to push yourself and in our usual Saturday fashion one with a friend! These AMRAPS will push you to your limits, but there is no better way to start your weekend!
As we mentioned at the start of this post, we have Holly fighting on Sunday, so expect some challenging Muay Thai sessions. We have classes running all week as per, with sparring on Friday so book in and come sweat out the stress of the day with your pals and favourite coaches!
We can’t wait to see you smash this week and achieve some incredible things, and we will be there to support you every step of the way!
